About Chief Deputy Prosecutor Steve Koester

Steve Koester is a career prosecutor born and raised in Madison County. He graduated from Indiana State University in 1992 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. He attended Indiana University School of law at Indianapolis where he received a Juris Doctorate in 1996. He obtained his license to practice law the same year and accepted a position as a Deputy Prosecutor with the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office.

Steve has successfully prosecuted over 150 major felony jury trials, including numerous murder convictions. He remained a Deputy Prosecutor until he was named the Chief Deputy Prosecutor on January 1, 2015. Steve and his wife Erin continue to live in Madison County where they are raising their family.
